Accessibilty

I commit to leading projects that will increase accessibility and support students to fulfil their potential.

Accessible Learning is the Future

Facilitate the Accessible Learning Forum.

For the past few years, we have experienced a new normality of education due to the pandemic. As VP Inclusion, I have worked with the University on the Digital Accessibility Project. This two-year project will co-design MyPlace and Pegasus with students to increase the usability of these platforms. It also aims to provide training for lecturers on writing effective alternative texts (Alt text).

I have also been involved in the conversations around accessible learning at Strathclyde and how to provide support to meet the access needs of students. We, students, are not asking for an online university but an inclusive and accessible education experience. With your support, I will continue lobbying for accessible class materials/ distance learning resources and leading on the inclusion aspects of the discussion around 'The Future of Eduction'.

I urge you as students to be involved in shaping the direction of the topic of 'Accessible Learning', especially those who experience disabilities, health issues, care responsibilities, menstrual (period) disorders, homelessness, trauma triggers and learning difficulties/disabilities, and those who compete as student-athletes.

Better Campus Navigation

Lead Accessible Campus Project - design a better navigating experience on campus.

I will continue working with the Disabled Students' Rep in the coming four months to identify the accessible routes on campus. I plan to design an accessible campus map that will guide students with disabilities, mobility challenges and/or chronic illnesses to get around the campus more easily.

If I am re-elected, I will ensure that this project remains my priority in time for the new academic year. The first edition of the accessible campus map will be printed, but I will lobby the university to add the routes to the campus map on the Strathclyde App during my term.
