Optimisation

I dedicate myself to improving my approach to supporting and representing the diverse groups at Strathclyde.

Champion Inclusion

Refine approaches to champion inclusion (e.g. BAME, Disabled, LGBT+, Women students) and cultural groups.

I have supported the elected Inclusion Reps (BAME, Disabled, LGBT+, and Women Students' Rep). I engaged with cultural groups (e.g. SISA, SUMSA and African and Caribbean Society) and helped Iranian students establish their society. I developed inductions and resources for international students to help them settle in Glasgow.

I worked closely with LGBT+ Students' Rep to maintain resources for LGBT+ students and create events and campaigns such as the National Coming Out Day, Trans and Non-binary Swimming Session and LGBT+ History Month Campaign.

I am working with the Disabled Students' Rep on the Accessible Routes Map project. I also handled the signages by the lifts with the Disabled Students' Rep to ensure inclusive culture for our disabled students.

I have also engaged closely with various BAME student groups to ensure that diversity in students of BAME backgrounds can be well represented and celebrated, as well as student groups and external organisations with a focus on Women+ in areas such as raising awareness on health issues, campaigning to end GBV, safeguarding and empowerment.

I constantly take on student feedback and criticism to do better for you and all the groups I care deeply about. I will commit to continue making changes in the future.

Men's Mental Health

Improve support for men's mental health.

This year I have worked to improve mental health support for inclusion groups. By talking to students, I realise that many male students struggle with mental health but do not feel comfortable speaking about their struggles for different reasons.

Men are dying on average 4.5 years earlier than women. It is often preventable if we have an appropriate system in place. As VP Inclusion, I will continue advocating for better mental health support for all, with a keen eye on improving men's mental health. Inspired by our Sports Clubs' Movember initiatives, I aim to work with them to unite our men's community at Strathclyde and raise awareness on improving our male students' health and establish mental health services and support that work for our male students.
